25 Ott EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR): consultations starts up!
A public consultation has been launched on the EU Strategy for the Adriatic and Ionian Region (EUSAIR).
This strategy aims to reach relevant stakeholders and to gather their ideas in order to make sure that the Strategy is realistic in its starting point,
appropriate in its objectives and responsive to the real needs of inhabitants of the Region.
EUSAIR concerns eight countries:
- 4 EU Member States (Croatia, Greece, Italy and Slovenia)
- 4 non-EU countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia).
It focuses on areas of regional mutual interest, and it is structured around four pillars:
- Driving innovative maritime and marine growth
- Connecting the region
- Preserving, protecting, improving the quality of the environment
- Increasing regional attractiveness
The European Council invited the EC to prepare the EUSAIR strategy within the end of 2014. Once ready the Strategy will join the2 existing ones: EU Strategy for
the Baltic Sea Region (EUSBSR) and the EU Strategy for Danubian Region (EUSDR).
Anyway in order to be effective the model proposed by the macro-regional strategies must be fully integrated into in the financial budget 2014-2020.
The consultation for EUSAIR runs from 25 October to 13 December 2013 and is open to private citizens, organisations and public authorities. Procedures for
participating to the public consultation are available in the CE website.
