Greening the Locarno-Milano-Venezia waterway

The Province of Novara has launched the project on the Locarno-Milan-Venice waterway “Slowmove”, focusing on slow and environmental consistent mobility improvement. Financed by the Italy-Switzerland 2014-2020 cross-border cooperation program, the project improves the sustainable use of this waterway through an online portolan chart and the integration of landings and moorings, networking infrastructures already implemented, such as the Miorina basin and the Panperduto hydraulic node, and those planned, like the port of the Tower. Slowmove will build 3 new piers and 3 mooring bridges, and it will implement a management and remote control system of the basins. Moreover, a series of interventions on electric mobility are planned: a study to build a network of charging stations, 6 of which will be installed thanks to the project, and the improvement of use of proximity electric vehicles, 36 of them will be made available by the project.
Citizens, tourists and business sector will benefit from a cleaner environment, and those who love cycling will take advantage of the new bicycle touring hostel that will be settled in the former Town Hall of Castelletto Sopra Ticino. The project is possible thanks to the cooperation between different actors: the Locarno-Milan-Venice Association, the East Ticino-Villoresi Land Reclamation Authority, the managing body of the Ticino and Lake Maggiore protected areas, the Lombardy and Piedmont regions, the Lombard Park of the Ticino valley, the municipality of Castelletto Sopra Ticino.
